Mission Statement
The University of Wollongong Badminton Club has been running since 1972 and has gradually become very popular over time. In recent years, the club has had over a 100 members each year, representing students from many nations including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and more. This makes it one of the most active and multi-cultural clubs in the University of Wollongong. One of the main objectives of the club is to promote badminton as a popular sport for relaxation, joy and friendship.
Club Activities
The main activities of the club are the weekly practice and social games on Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings. These sessions are held in the six-court URAC Sport Hall and last for 2.5 hours (Wednesday) or 3 hours (Friday and Sunday). The Wednesday session runs from 4.30pm to 7.00pm while the Friday session runs from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Sunday sessions run from 10.00am to 1.00pm. At present, we also hold hour long coaching sessions on Fridays and Sundays, with a focus on both beginners and advanced players.
Club members are encouraged to participate in inter-club matches (mostly in Sydney area) and intra-club competitions held twice per year. Each year, the club aims to participate in the Eastern University Games and the Australian University Games, representing the University.
The club also conducts a number of social events each year, such as a welcoming BBQ, international food nights, bushwalks and hikes, visits to national and international tournaments when held in Sydney, ten-pin bowling and an end-of-year AGM dinner. All these events are mainly designed to create an atmosphere of fun and friendship within the club
