Mega Swim
As part of University Recreation and Aquatic Centre’s commitment to support the local Illawarra community, URAC Aquatic Centre will be the venue for the upcoming 24 hour MS Mega Swim. This event will be held from 12noon on Saturday 3rd of March – 12noon on Sunday 4th of March 2012.
What is the Mega Swim?
The MS Mega Swim is a 24 hour swim-a-thon designed to raise awareness and much needed funds for those suffering with Multiple Sclerosis. There are currently over 20,000 people in Australia that have been diagnosed with the disease, with that figure likely to increase as detection methods become more advanced. What is this event designed to achieve?
The first 24hr MS Mega Swim took place in 2001, raising more than $22,000 for MS sufferers. The University Recreation and Aquatic Centre with the help of Figtree LIONS Club and MS Australia will be attempting to improve on that total and raise $30,000 for this very important cause.
The funds raised going towards the further development of local community scholarships. These scholarships are designed to provide programs and services to local MS sufferers and give them the support they require in order to go about their daily activities.
