Jo Caldwell (UOW City 2 Surf Team 2010)
‘I had so much fun being part of the City to Surf training squad. I actually looked forward to getting out of bed at 6am for training! It was the perfect 8 week training program to prepare me for the City to Surf. What a wonderful experience!’
Ian Fenemore(UOW City 2 Surf Team 2010) "I'm still buzzing after Sundays City2Surf. It was my first time and I entered with nervous anticipation. I was blown away by the number of people and the start line was a bit hectic to say the least, but once into the race, I felt inspired by all those other people striving for the same thing I was - to finish the race, and have enough breath to be able to brag about it afterwards. I'd set myself a target of 80mins, and not having done the race or distance before I wasn't sure just how tough it would be. To cross that finish line with so many other jubilant but exhausted people, pumping their fists in the air, was an awesome experience. At the 7km mark I was feeling pretty good, thinking I'm halfway, only 7 to go. But then the hilly section started and I was beginning to doubt if I could make it. Then I heard Claire's voice, and Phil's voice, urging me on. I started to think of all those dark, cold evenings pounding the parks, streets and steps; all the sprinting and interval training. I thought about Hannah's inspirational emails and words of encouragement, and about the people who had donated to my charity. How could I Iet these people down? The last few kms were a slog, but I made it and even managed a sprint (well, a slightly faster pace) at the end. I eventually finished in 82mins and so pretty happy with my efforts. So my thanks go to the URAC training team - especially Phil and Claire for pushing on those runs, and Hannah for keeping me motivated. You did good. I never would have achieved my goal without you."
